Listenara

Install

Open Listenara on macOS.

Because Listenara is distributed independently and is not notarized by Apple, macOS may show an unidentified-developer warning the first time you open it. This is expected. Follow the steps below to continue.

  1. Download the Mac app from the Download page, open the DMG, and drag Listenara.app to Applications.
  2. Open Listenara.app from Applications.
  3. When the unidentified-developer warning appears, click OK.
  4. Open System Settings > Privacy & Security, find the message about Listenara, then click Open Anyway.
  5. Confirm that you want to open Listenara.
  6. macOS requests only the permissions relevant to the source you choose; Speech Recognition is required for transcription. Grant them only for audio you are authorized to record or transcribe.

After Listenara opens

Listenara opens the Recorder in a native Mac window. Choose Microphone or System Audio, choose translation if needed, then start and stop. Audio and transcription save automatically as one recording in the separate Library; use Window → Library or press ⌘2.

To process an existing recording, choose File → Import Audio…, select one authorized audio file, review its title, optional description, and language choices, then choose Import. Listenara copies and processes it locally before adding it to the Library.

Language choices

Listenara shows Arabic, English, French, German, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Portuguese (Brazil), and Spanish in the Transcribe and Translate menus.

Actual availability depends on Apple Speech and Apple Translation support on your Mac. Transcription and translation support are related but not identical.

If a Transcribe language is not supported on your Mac, choose another Transcribe language. macOS may install speech assets when needed.

For translation, install language models in System Settings > General > Language & Region > Translation Languages.

Using Codex?

Listenara works without Codex. If you use Codex, you can install the separate optional Listenara skill after installing the Mac app.
