Optional Codex Skill

Turn recordings into useful work.

Listenara works fully as a Mac app without AI. Add the optional skill when you want Codex to help with your local Library, using only the recording content you choose.

What you can do

Find and organize

Find recordings by title or other details without reading transcript text, add tags or collections, and archive finished work.

Prepare meeting follow-up

Turn an authorized transcript into decisions, action items, open questions, or a follow-up draft.

Build study material

Create vocabulary tables, shadowing practice, cloze prompts, subtitle files, or Anki-ready CSV from lawful material.

Review and export

Propose corrections without overwriting accepted text, then export readable Markdown, SRT, VTT, or a portable Listenara package.

Before you install the skill

Install Listenara.app in your Applications folder and open it once.
Use a current Codex app or CLI release that supports personal skills.
Only use recordings you own, created yourself, are authorized to access, or have permission to record or transcribe.

The skill is an instruction package. It does not add an AI provider to Listenara and does not upload your Library automatically.

Install the Listenara skill

The Listenara 1.0.1 (Build 7) skill package is available below.

The Codex skill is optional and separate from the Mac app. Listenara works without it. Installing or updating the app does not install or update the skill.

Download Listenara Skill ZIP

Download and unzip the Listenara Skill ZIP above.
Open Terminal and paste the two commands below. They create your personal skills folder if needed, then open it in Finder.
In the extracted package, open codex/skills, then copy the complete listenara folder into the Finder window. The final file should be $HOME/.agents/skills/listenara/SKILL.md.
If a listenara folder is already there, follow the skill update instructions below. Do not merge files from different versions.
Open Codex. If Listenara does not appear automatically, restart Codex.

Confirm that the skill is ready

In Codex, open the skills list with /skills and confirm that Listenara appears.
You can also invoke it directly by starting a prompt with $listenara.
Try the safe first prompt below. It opens Listenara without permission to start recording.

$listenara Open Listenara. Do not start a recording.

Opening Listenara is never recording consent. A microphone or system-audio recording starts only after you explicitly request that source.

What Codex can see

Installing the skill does not upload your recordings or add an AI provider to Listenara. When you ask Codex to browse your Library, details such as titles, tags, dates, language labels, and recording IDs may enter the Codex conversation.

Transcript text may enter the Codex conversation only when you ask Codex to read, summarize, rewrite, correct, translate, or otherwise use it. Use only authorized recordings, and take extra care with clinical, patient, workplace, school, or other sensitive content.

Prompts for common tasks

Browse and organize without transcript content

$listenara Show my ten most recent recordings without reading transcript text.
$listenara Find the recording titled “Weekly review” and add the tags planning and follow-up.
$listenara Archive the recording titled “Completed lecture” after you confirm the exact match.

Meetings and action items

$listenara Summarize my recording titled “Project planning” into decisions, action items, owners, and open questions.
$listenara Draft a concise follow-up email from the recording titled “Client kickoff.” If more than one item matches, show the recording details and ask me to choose before reading transcript text.

Language study

$listenara Turn “Weekly language practice” into a vocabulary table, example sentences, and five cloze prompts with timestamps.
$listenara Export the recording titled “Pronunciation practice” as VTT and create a short shadowing exercise. Confirm the exact match first.

Reviewable corrections

$listenara Propose corrections to “Interview practice” without changing the accepted transcript. Show me the proposal for review.

Meeting, study, and correction prompts require Codex to read transcript text. Use them only when you want that content in the Codex context.

Update the optional Codex skill

Installing or replacing the Mac app does not update this skill. Codex users update it separately with the Listenara Skill ZIP.

Download and unzip the latest Listenara Skill ZIP from the button above.
Close Codex.
Move the existing $HOME/.agents/skills/listenara folder to a backup location or Trash.
From the extracted ZIP, copy the complete codex/skills/listenara folder into $HOME/.agents/skills. Do not merge old and new files.
Reopen Codex, run /skills, and confirm that Listenara appears. You can also confirm it works by starting a prompt with $listenara.

Remove the skill

Close Codex, move $HOME/.agents/skills/listenara to Trash, then reopen Codex and confirm that Listenara no longer appears in /skills.

Replacing or removing the skill does not delete Listenara recordings, app settings, trial state, or license state.

Skill troubleshooting

Listenara is missing from /skills: confirm that SKILL.md is directly inside $HOME/.agents/skills/listenara, then restart Codex.
An update does not appear: confirm that you replaced the complete listenara folder instead of merging old and new files, then restart Codex.
Listenara appears more than once: keep only the current copy at $HOME/.agents/skills/listenara, remove the older duplicate, and restart Codex.
